Without a functioning battery, your car won’t be going anywhere — so it’s important to be aware of some key warning signs. If you’ve noticed any of these issues recently, it’s probably time to have a new battery installed.
Slow start or no start
Does your engine turn over slowly and reluctantly when you try to start it? This is a sure sign that something is wrong. It could be the starter or the alternator, but it could also indicate that your battery’s life is near its end. A series of clicking sounds when you try to start the vehicle is another battery warning you should heed.
Dimming headlights are a common battery warning sign, indicating that your lamps aren’t getting the power they need to work properly. If you notice issues with your dash lights, infotainment system, or other electronics, this could also indicate a failing battery.
A bad test score
The older your battery gets, the more likely it is to fail. If it’s more than a few years old, have it tested whenever you get an oil change or other scheduled maintenance. A test can determine whether your battery is about to fail and allow you to proactively replace it instead of waiting for the day when your vehicle won’t start.
